Scare up a Good Book in January

Are you ready for a good scare?

January’s reading theme is ‘Scare up a good book’ and is dedicated to all those things that go bump in the night.

If you are already a horror fan, you might want to re-read some old favourites, and let us all know why they are so great.  If you are less sure about the horror and thriller genres, perhaps you’d like to read some non-fiction about frightening events, or a novel with just a twist of the scary.

Personally, I love that this is January’s theme, because the holiday home I spent my summers in as a child had a giant stack of Unexplained magazines, and I would sit reading them for hours, scaring myself silly learning about Jack the Ripper, the disappearance of the Mary Celeste, and wondering at the curious short term disappearance of that maven of the mystery, Agatha Christie.

If you would like to share your own scary reading experiences, you can tweet while you read by adding the hashtag #suagb to your twitter posts about reading.  You can also use this tag on other websites like flickr, or on your blog – to share with us what you are reading and what you think about it (and maybe even how loud you screamed on page 192!)

And if it’s all just a little too scary for you – don’t keep yourself up all night with the frights… try doing your reading at the beach!
